About Us The Sussex Steam Engine Club was created in 1993 by a small group of locally based enthusiasts. Their belief that Engine Owners, Operators and supporters would welcome the opportunity to promote their interest in Steam preservation has been fully rewarded by the flourishing club. Our Members come from all walks of life and are not restricted to Sussex alone. We are proud to include subscribers from many parts of the UK as well as Europe, the USA and South Africa. Whatever your interest in steam you can always be assured of a warm welcome. The quarterly club magazine “Steam News” records events and gives helpful hints to engine operators and the chance for Members to ask questions and recount their own experiences.
We support many events across the country with engines sometimes travelling great distances to promote the glory of our steam heritage. They can frequently be seen providing the power for fairground equipment, saw benches, thrashing machines and ploughing demonstrations. In regular winter months we hold monthly meetings where everyone can keep in touch and rekindle their energy for the next rally season. The end of the year is topped off with a Christmas Dinner.
